5 Things to Do in Reno This July

July is one of my favorite months to be in Reno. The weather is warm, the days are long, and there always seems to be something happening around town. Whether you're looking for live music, great food, or an excuse to spend more time outside, here are five events worth adding to your calendar this month.

1. Experience Artown

If you've lived in Reno for any length of time, you've probably heard of Artown. If you haven't been, July is the perfect time to change that. Throughout the entire month, Artown brings hundreds of concerts, performances, art exhibits, theater productions, cultural celebrations, and family-friendly activities to venues all over Reno. The best part is that many of the events are completely free.

You don't have to plan your entire month around it either. Browse the calendar, pick a few events that interest you, and enjoy one of the things that makes Reno unique every summer.

2. Catch an Aces Game

There's something about a summer evening at Greater Nevada Field that just feels like Reno. The Reno Aces are home throughout much of July, making it a great opportunity to grab a hot dog, enjoy a cold drink, and watch baseball with friends or family.

Even if you're not a huge baseball fan, the atmosphere is worth it. Between the promotions, fireworks on select nights, and the view of downtown beyond the outfield, it's one of the best summer experiences in town.

3. Spend an Evening at Food Truck Friday

IIf your ideal summer night involves trying a few different foods, listening to live music, and relaxing in the park, Food Truck Friday should be on your list.

Held at Idlewild Park, you'll find dozens of local food vendors serving everything from barbecue and tacos to desserts and specialty drinks. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, meet up with friends, and enjoy a casual evening outdoors. It's become one of Reno's favorite summer traditions for good reason.

4. Hike One of Reno's Nearby Trails

One of the biggest advantages of living in Reno is how quickly you can escape into the mountains. July is a great time to get an early start and explore one of the area's many hiking trails before the afternoon heat sets in.

A few local favorites include Hunter Creek Trail, Thomas Creek Trail, and the Tahoe Rim Trail. Whether you're looking for waterfalls, mountain views, or a challenging workout, there's a trail nearby that's worth exploring. Just remember to bring plenty of water and start early.

5. Cool Off at Lake Tahoe

No July list would be complete without mentioning Lake Tahoe. Less than an hour from Reno, it's one of the easiest ways to spend a summer day.

Pack a picnic, rent a paddleboard or kayak, relax on the beach, or simply enjoy the scenery. Whether you're heading to Sand Harbor, Kings Beach, or one of the smaller beaches around the lake, it's hard to beat a day on Tahoe's crystal-clear water.

One of the things I appreciate most about living here is that there's always something happening without having to travel very far. Whether you're checking out Artown, catching an Aces game, exploring the mountains, or spending the day at Tahoe, July is a great reminder of why so many people love calling Reno home.
